The only information on this grainy photo is the date, 1948, but my guess is that it shows a visit by two granddaughters to see their grandmother. What a clash of styles! The grandmother wears two items of clothing that could easily have come from decades before—a big apron and a small print dress. Her granddaughters wear pants, something I don’t imagine she would ever consider for herself.
Of course pants were not entirely a new style, either, already made popular in leisurewear and widely worn in factories during World War Two. However, many older women objected to the style as unladylike. These two young women must have assumed that their grandmother wouldn’t mind.
