Beauty Treatments–Exercises for your Face

Fashion designer Pauline Trigère did yoga every day.  In an interview for the 1975 book American Fashion: The Life and Lines of Adrian, Mainbocher, McCardell, Norell, Trigère, edited by Sarah Tomerlin Lee, she claimed that head stands were better than a facial.

Actress and entrepreneur Gloria Swanson had a whole routine of facial exercises that she learned from British novelist and screenwriter Elinor Glyn.  Swanson swore that the exercises kept her face wrinkle free her entire life. I suppose we could learn them too with a copy of Glyn’s 1927 publication, The Wrinkle Book. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a copy online, but apparently it was part of the long tradition of such literature on “facial gymnastics.”

But if you would like a lower stress method, fashion historians April Callahan and Cassidy Zachary uncovered a technique promoted by the Du Barry Company for their mail order success course.  The company called it “The Beauty Angle.” It involved raising your feet up above your head for at least an hour a day in order to bring more blood to your face.
