Thanksgiving Feast, 1947

The star of this photo is the African American chef in the background, Carson Gulley.  He was something of a celebrity at the University of Wisconsin and went on to write cookbooks and host a radio cooking show.

But lets take a moment to recognize his female helpers, all white and mostly older. It takes a lot of people to put on a big Thanksgiving feast.

May you have a festive holiday!  I’ll be drinking champagne.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

A happy day to you, too. I can’t imagine lifting those platters! I admire the variety of necklines and sleeves those women intoduced to their “uniform” look.
