The Embroidery Club of Orange, California 1914

It’s not all that easy to find photos of older women in costume.  Most of these happy ladies look young, but a few, center right, might be pushing fifty. Many have chosen decades past for their inspiration, but two have decided to dress as men.  There is the young woman at the center playing the groom, off an a “San Diego Honeymoon.”  And then there is my personal favorite, the woman on the right side dressed as a milkman.

Was it Halloween?  Or were these women in the small town of Orange, California just showing what they could accomplish with a needle?
