So much fun! We get to make up our own story? First, what stands out for me are the drapes. They look tropical, maybe orchids. I love the drapes. So this is someone’s living room. I think the hostess is the one at right reading the magazine. They have just finished eating. The dishes on the cocktail table are dessert and they are smoking. These glasses are really funny. They are not highball glasses. They look like juice glasses. I would say they were having a cocktail with their cigarettes or a cordial or something except for the glasses. Maybe they are having an aperitif in a juice glass, eh?

Agnes, third from left, is clearly overdressed and she is doing it intentionally to show she is better than the rest. Martha, second from left, is not going for the snobbery and pointing out that her son and daughter-in-law just bought a new home bigger than the one Agnes’ children have. The hostess is reading the magazine and chuckling at their petty rivalry and Barbara on the the far left is eavesdropping. They are not really friends. They are forced together either on a planning committee or their husbands are in the next room playing cards.

Well I like both the stories, but I also wonder about the photographer. Why did he or she take this picture?

its a great photo, I like to think they are friends or a familiar group as the chat seems animated and lively, the lady in the white hat looks very polished indeed, and everyone looks well turned out – nice bracelet on the older lady laughing (I wonder is the article she is reading or enjoying the banter)
